![]() It’s too difficult for the majority of businesses to have the time and expertise to make sure their Web sites show up for related search engine queries above their competitors. And that algorithm’s guarded more closely than Colonel Sanders’ secret spices. Google uses over 100 different variables like the length of time a site’s been up to how many times a particular term and its synonyms are used in a page to how many and which sites link to those pages in its algorithm. I tell them not to feel bad because it can be difficult for even experts in the industry that spend all of their workdays on getting listings to show up higher ( search engine optimization). In addition to being genuinely impressed with how quickly I got the answer to my seemingly archaic question (I guess I’m not special) I decided to write about this today because I talk to a lot of business owners that just don’t understand why their companies – with relevant content written by experts – doesn’t come up in the natural listings above some of these “bad” links. While search engines have largely done a great job of showing you where you want to go to find what you’re looking for, we’ve all experienced seeing links that just don’t seem to make sense. Just from this one tiny example, it’s pretty apparent that the use of social media is helping search engines return more relevant results. But you already knew that, didn’t you smart guy? Well, over 1,000 other people were searching for that same information in October so go ahead, feather your bangs, put on your parachute pants and get on your I’m-the-80’s-music-queen/king high horse. ![]() ![]() Three-toed sloths also have an advantage that few other mammals possess: They have extra neck vertebrae that allows them to turn their heads some 270 degrees. The three-toed sloth emits a long, high-pitched call that echoes through the forests as “ahh-eeee.” Because of this cry these sloths are sometimes called ais (pronounced “eyes”). They sometimes fall directly from rain forest trees into rivers and stroke efficiently with their long arms. Though they couldn't be clumsier on land, sloths are surprisingly good swimmers. If caught on land, these animals have no chance to evade predators, such as big cats, and must try to defend themselves by clawing and biting. They must dig into the earth with their front claws and use their strong front legs to pull themselves along, dragging their bellies across the ground. On land, sloths' weak hind legs provide no power and their long claws are a hindrance. Three-toed sloth babies are often seen clinging to their mothers-they travel by hanging on to them for the first nine months of their lives. This was the Ice Age world that humans encountered when they first crossed. Sloths mate and give birth while hanging in the trees. Seven-foot camels roaming the shores of marshy seas. At night they eat leaves, shoots, and fruit from the trees and get almost all of their water from juicy plants. Even when awake they often remain motionless. (Dead sloths have been known to retain their grip and remain suspended from a branch.) Sloths even sleep in trees, and they sleep a lot-some 15 to 20 hours every day. They spend nearly all of their time aloft, hanging from branches with a powerful grip aided by their long claws. ![]() Life in the TreesĪll sloths are built for life in the treetops. There are both two-toed and three-toed sloths. Sloths are identified by the number of long, prominent claws that they have on each front foot. ![]() The plant gives it a greenish tint that is useful camouflage in the trees of its Central and South American rain forest home. The trail of footprints ends, though, and it’s not clear who came out victorious. The sloth is the world's slowest mammal, so sedentary that algae grows on its furry coat. The encounter “wasn’t luck or happenstance it was cold calculation,” Reynolds says. But the chase continued, with the humans in hot pursuit. At seven places, a sloth reared up on its hind legs - towering over the humans - to fend off an attack. Reynolds, Bustos and their colleagues reconstructed the chase: Humans stalked a sloth, or several sloths, which the hunters surrounded in the open. “This was a moment of action, a moment of drama.” “We’re getting a view into the past, of an interaction between two species,” says Sally Reynolds, a paleoecologist at Bournemouth University in Poole, England. An analysis of the tracks also suggested the two species were interacting with one another. Tests of sediment showed the sloth and human prints were made at the same time. These “ghost tracks” had previously remained hidden because they can be seen only under the right moisture conditions - too little or too much water in the soil, and the outlines of the prints were invisible. A two-fingered female sloth will give birth to a single baby after a gestation period of 11.5 months, while a three-fingered sloth is thought to give birth after approximately six months. In April 2017, researchers stumbled across more than 100 tracks in White Sands. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can find it along with the comparison chart of both versions on Eltima website (follow the link in the right sidebar).**. Indeed, it is common for individuals to take risks in life. To paraphrase William Arthur Ward, a 20th century American philosopher, the person who risks nothing, has nothing. The experiences that humans regularly seek include novelty, recreation, and adventure (Zuckerman, 1979 Ebstein et al., 1996 Benjamin et al., 1996). Sensation-seeking and shifting these experiences, as a basic and enduring human drive, can be compared to a child's exploration of his or her environment to develop fundamental mastery of skills and satisfy curiosity. People seek stimulation and try to optimize their subjective experience by shifting sensations. A current and widely disseminated theory is that people engage in gambling because it has the capacity to create excitement (Boyd, 1976 Steiner, 1970). For example, in casino gambling the odds are against the gambler because the house takes its cut thus, the more people gamble, the more likely they are to lose.ġ998). By its very nature, gambling involves a voluntary, deliberate assumption of risk, often with a negative expectable value. As used in this report, the term "gambling" refers both to games of chance that are truly random and involve little or no skill that can improve the odds of winning, and to activities that require the use of skills that can improve the chance of winning. The use of such skills may reduce the randomness of the outcome but, because of other factors that cannot be predicted or analyzed, the outcome remains uncertain. For example, a bettor's knowledge of playing strategies can improve his or her chances of winning in certain card games knowledge of horses and jockeys may improve predictions of probable outcomes in a horse race (Bruce and Johnson, 1996). Throughout history, however, gambling also has involved activities requiring skill. This is the dictionary definition of gambling as well ( Oxford English Dictionary, second edition, 1989). Gambling in this sense implies an act whereby the participant pursues a monetary gain without using his or her skills (Brenner and Brenner, 1990). In modern times, gambling has come to mean wagering money or other belongings on chance activities or events with random or uncertain outcomes (Devereux, 1979). A gambler was defined as a fraudulent gamester, sharper, or rook who habitually plays for money, especially extravagantly high stakes ( Oxford English Dictionary, second edition, 1989). Historically, the word ''gambling" referred to playing unfairly or cheating at play. These varied views have stimulated debate and controversy. Consequently, the act of gambling has been consideredīy various observers to provide evidence of recreational interest, diminished mathematical skills, poor judgment, cognitive distortions, mental illness, and moral turpitude. In the absence of an agreed-upon nomenclature, these and other groups interested in gambling and gambling problems have developed different paradigms or world views from which to consider these matters. The nomenclature must also reflect a variety of perspectives because research scientists, psychiatrists, other treatment care clinicians, and public policy makers tend to frame questions about gambling differently, depending on their disciplinary training, experience, and special interests. A nomenclature inclusive of pathological gambling must be suitable for use in scholarly research, clinical diagnosis and treatment, and community and other social contexts. Nomenclature refers to a system of names used in an art or science and is critical in conceptualizing, discussing, and making judgments about pathological gambling and related behaviors. A discrete, acceptable, and useful definition of pathological gambling would be based on a nomenclature applicable in a wide diversity of contexts (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). Understanding the extent and nature of pathological gambling, as well as its social and economic impact, requires as clear a definition as possible. Terms used to describe behaviors in similar contexts or venues have an influence on how those behaviors are defined and viewed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Roasted and chocolate malts create hints of coffee and caramel, while the lactose helps balance the beer’s hoppiness.
